Bite Studio: A new print shop looking for membership in PDX. Craigslist posting:

Additionally, we have flat files and other storage.
Bite Studio participates in First Friday. So, not only will you be given access to a print studio - you will be able to show your work. We have two-person, studio group shows, and occasional open-call community shows.
Interested? Currently membership is $100/month.
Call studio member Shawn at: 503 975 3122 to schedule a visit.
Visit our site: www.bitestudio.org
Visit us this Saturday (3/29) from 12-4 to see our latest exhibit, and check out the space.
-A lot of you have inquired about print co-ops around Portland. I am currently working on a list...but for now, the best one I know of is Flight 64. They don't have a website, but you can go to their myspace page to find out more.

Peter Marcus: Collographs
Here is a video of artist Peter Marcus in his studio. Peter was my teacher at Washington University in St. Louis, and really transformed the collograph method into a fine art process. Check out the press he prints on(Peter made the press/and it is what I used throughout undergrad). Also, check out how he presents his prints--stretched onto canvas. If anyone is interested, I can do a demo on this.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=7FjS-ZP5E6s
Method:
Cintra Board--light gray plate tone.
Ball point pen: Used to make line. The more pressure you apply with the pen, the darker your lines will print.
Etching scribe: Similar affect as dry point.
Relief cutting tool: use this for more etching-like lines.
Gloss medium: White areas.
Contact paper: large white areas.
Matte medium/gloss medium: Used to glue and seal all textures applied to the plate. Also, mix this with carborundum to get area of gray.
Carborundum: For light grays--thin out carborundum mixture with water. For darker grays increase the amount of carborundum in the mixture or do multiple layers of the light gray mixture.
**For best results focus on your image not on all the textures you can make. Simplicity and continuity of image is key.

YouTube Printmaking Videos
Printing a Rembrandt Etching: The production value is a little low on this, but it's interesting to see how the master printer wipes the plate.

Really cool relief prints. When I was in NYC they had a show with a gigantic 3-D snake made out of lino cuts.
